Sometimes it’s a simple matter of getting started that we get stuck on and the time just goes by. Sometimes a person just doesn’t know how to get started with a big job or task. It just seems to be too big and challenging so they procrastinate. A good way to get started on a big task is to break it down into smaller parts. One technique is to give yourself 20 minutes with no distractions and then take a 5-minute break, followed by another 20 minutes. You can further break the 20 minutes into smaller 2-minute tasks which you can take care of. Soon you’ll find that things are getting done.
Being realistic about what you can accomplish can help you get through the fear about having to do everything. Sometimes procrastination is caused by fear of incompletion. Getting most of the task completed is still a better result than not starting at all.
It can sometimes help to let people know about your goals. You are more likely to follow things through and achieve your goals when you tell people about them. Knowing that people are aware of your goals makes you want to succeed more. Being held to account can give you the extra incentive you need to follow through to the end.
